PGDip in BE- 2024 – Open university -The Postgraduate Institute of English (PGIE) at the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) has unveiled an exciting new opportunity for educators with the introduction of a Postgraduate Diploma in Bilingual Education for the academic year 2024/25. This one-year program aims to enhance the skills of those involved in teaching content subjects through the English language, encompassing both Bilingual Education (BE) and English Medium Instruction (EMI).
Program Highlights:
– Exclusive Offering: This is the only Bilingual Education postgraduate qualification available in Sri Lanka, meticulously designed to meet the specific needs of the local educational context.
– Financial Support: The Ministry of Education will fully sponsor the course fee for 50 selected applicants serving in the public school system, making it an accessible option for eligible educators.
Target Groups
- Bilingual education teachers in government, pirivena, and semi-government schools.
- Teacher educators and in-service advisors.
- Principals of schools.
- Educational administrators.
- Lecturers in higher education institutes.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for admission, applicants must meet one of the following educational qualifications:
– A Bachelor’s degree at SLQF Level 5 or higher from a recognized university.
– A professional qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 07 from an institute recognized by the University Grants Commission or the Ministry of Higher Education.
– An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
Course Fee:
The program fee is set at Rs. 140,000. However, the Ministry of Education’s sponsorship for 50 public school applicants who meet the qualification requirements will significantly reduce the financial burden on selected participants.
Selection Process
A limited number of candidates will be chosen based on marks obtained, with priority given to those currently serving in the public school system.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Open University of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Education to fostering advanced educational qualifications among educators, thereby enriching the quality of bilingual education in the country.
