The Bhikkhu University of Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura, has called for applications from qualified individuals to fill several academic and non-academic vacancies. The announcement invites applications from Buddhist monks for high-level academic positions, while also opening a non-academic opportunity for qualified citizens.
Academic Vacancies (Buddhist Monks Only)
The university has specified that only Buddhist monks will be considered for the following academic posts:
- Professor (Chair): There are 02 vacancies available across a wide range of disciplines, including Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Civilization, Practical Buddhist Studies, Archaeology, Education Science, Sociology, Psychology, History, Philosophy, Library and Information Science, and Heritage Management.
- Senior Lecturer / Lecturer: There is 01 vacancy for the post of Senior Lecturer (Grade I/II), Lecturer (Unconfirmed), or Lecturer (Probationary). The relevant fields for this post include Practical Buddhist Studies, Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Civilization, or Pali.
Key Requirements:
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their first degree in the English medium.
- Teaching in English is considered an essential requirement.
- Expertise in Buddhist heritage and conservation of palm-leaf manuscripts is considered a special qualification for the Senior Lecturer/Lecturer posts.
Non-Academic Vacancy
The university is also recruiting for the following non-academic post, open to qualified citizens (aged 18-45):
- Driver Grade III (02 Vacancies):
- Qualifications:Â Candidates must have passed six subjects in the G.C.E. (O/L) examination (with at least two credit passes) in a maximum of two sittings.
- Driving Requirements:Â A valid heavy vehicle license issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic and a minimum of three years of driving experience after obtaining the license.
Remuneration and Benefits
The university offers a competitive remuneration package pegged to U.G.C. Circulars.
- Salaries:
- Professor (Chair): Monthly salary scale starting at Rs. 198,280 + Academic Allowance (124%) + Research Allowance (21%) + Cost of Living Allowance (Rs. 17,800).
- Senior Lecturer Grade I: Starting at Rs. 160,520 + Academic Allowance (116%) + Research Allowance (21%) + COL.
- Driver Grade III: Salary scale of Rs. 48,005 – 55,845.
- Provident Fund:Â 10% contribution by the employee and 15% by the university.
- Other Benefits:Â 3% ETF contribution by the university, study leave, and sabbatical leave for academic staff.
